Computational Thinking in Pattern Making
Begüm Aktaş
Begüm Aktaş is a researcher, student, and architect. She continues her M. Sc. degree at Istanbul Technical University, Graduate School of Science Engineering and Technology, Department of Informatics, Architectural Design Computing Graduate Programme. She studied architecture at Yıldız Technical University in Istanbul. She worked in various architectural design offices. Her research interests focus on 'shape grammar', 'fuzzy logic', ''facade design' and 'Origami'. She participated various national and international workshops and conferences.
Can Uzun
Can Uzun is currently a Ph.D. student at Istanbul Technical University, Graduate School of Science Engineering and Technology, Department of Informatics, Architectural Design Computing Graduate Program. After completing his undergraduate degree in Architecture Department of ITU (2012), he received his graduate degree in Architectural Design Department in ITU (2014). His master thesis was presented with the title of “Form Information as a Field of Possibilities”. He worked in various architectural design offices for 3 years during his master education (2012-2015). In offices, he took on the executive role in projects at different scales such as architectural scale and urban scale. Currently, he has been working on a research project about cognitive aspects of design. On the other hand, he deals with areas related to ‘game engines’, ‘geometry’ and ‘shape grammar’.
Prof. Dr. Birgül Çolakoğlu

Birgul Çolakoglu graduated at Yildiz Technical University (YTU) in 1981 and completed her Ph.D. in Design and Computation in 2000 at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She worked as the Postdoctoral researcher at the MIT Architecture Department in 2001. She has worked at Yıldız Technical University between 2001-2015 and runs Computational Design Graduate Program from 2008-2015 at YTU. Currently, she works as Professor in Architectural Design and Computing Program at İstanbul Technical University. Her research is focused on computational design education, shape grammars, computational tool development and computational design technologies in Green Design. She became the member of eCAADe in 2008 and chaired the eCAADe Conference in 2009 in Istanbul in collaboration with Istanbul Technical University.
